Breast pain and very scared

Hi everyone.  Hands up - I am totally neurotic and now scared as well.  I have breast pain in my left breast - which is a burning pain and sometimes goes down my left arm.  Years ago I had breast implants which were a disaster and led to many operations on my breasts, the left one giving me massive bleeding problems.  Have had two previous episodes of left breast pain over the years - clear mammograms and ultrasounds but now that I am 66 years old, am wondering if my luck has run out.

I have an appointment to see a specialist on Thursday but don't know how I can survive mentally until then.  Yesterday I didn't wear a bra and I felt much better but in the night, had a sudden pain in the breast which really freaked me out.  Years ago I worked for doctors and you know what they say - a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing - that and Dr Google have convinced me I have a IBC which I know is the worst.  Anything words to help would be appreciated, although I know you are not doctors either ... Thank you.

  • Hello BBZ,

I can imagine it must be a very stressful time for you while waiting to find out more. I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be it won't be long now until you see the specialist and I hope everything goes well for you on Thursday. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious. As you know, Dr Google is certainly not to be trusted!

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

  • I am relieved to report that I had a clear mammogram and ultrasound today.  The doctor has put my pain down to referred pain from my neck and shoulder area.  He has said I need reassurance, reassurance and reassurance.  And Evening Primrose Oil capsules and pain relief if required.  Also to lose some weight.

  • That's great news BBZ. We're so pleased for you :)

We hope the pain (with the assistance of pain relief if/when needed) will start to lessen and disappear soon.

    All the best,
