Recently diagnosed with breast cancer

My breast cancer was confirmed last Thursday. I am lucky as it has been picked up during my 1st mammogram. The tumor is very small and I'm told they don't think it's in my lymph nodes. Originally I had opted just to have a lumpectomy and lymph node biopsy which I could have had next week however the consultant at the time offered me a breast lift - my boobs are quite saggy! Which originally I declined however after 24 hours I changed my mind so I'm hoping I will have a date for this given to me tomorrow. They can only do one breast then I will have to have the other uplifted in about 6 months. I will need a course of radiotherapy. I feel numb and very anxious. I'm now wondering if I made the right decision to go with the breast lift option as well especially as another consultant in the team may now do it.

  • Hi, I was diagnosed with breast cancer last March. Mine was also a small tumour early stage but aggressive grade 3. I had my lumpectomy and lymph node removal two weeks after diagnosis and for me that was the best option to get it done quickly as I found those two weeks quite stressful. I also had chemotherapy and radiotherapy which took up most of last year. It's very hard to make important decisions when you have just been given a cancer diagnosis but everyone  feels differently and you have to do what is best for you. Perhaps have a chat to the breast nurse or consultant for reassurance and maybe meet the consultant who will perform the op. I wish you all the best. X
