Recall to mammogram

Hello All,

I'm 53 and have been recalled following my first mammogram. I can't really feel any changes, but after getting my letter I noticed that one of my nipples is newly inverted and won't react to cold or stimulation. Now I am freaked.

Has anyone had new nipple changes and been ok? Can this be a menopause thing?

I wanted to quickly pop by to not only welcome you to the forum but to try and offer some reassurance.

About four out of every 100 women screened are recalled and you’re slightly more likely to be recalled after your first mammogram. This is often because there are no previous mammograms that can be used for comparison so the health professionals just want to double check things. Of these four people recalled, three will not have breast cancer. They might have a normal breast change or a benign (not cancer) condition.

I'd suggest having a look at this Breast Cancer Now blog which will hopefully give you some reassurance. I know some of our members have been recalled for mammograms which have proven to be nothing to worry about and hopefully they'll drop by to share their experiences with you too.

    Best wishes,
