Breast cancer - surgery and radiotherapy soon

Hi I'm lorna 34 single 4 kids ((sounds like I'm writing a dating add lol)) was diagnosed with breast cancer ((Friday 13th September, good job I'm not superstitious lol)) went straight for early menopause injection, accepted on a trial as good candidate and have had chemotherapy. I'm due surgery next week for full boob off and all lymphnodes to left side(was told from start would be full boob off regardless, I'm OK with that) but now I have been told have to have radiotherapy too. just feeling a bit gutted at this as mri was amazing in their words but been too good to be true anyone else been through this x

  • Hi Lorna,

Welcome to the group, none of us want to join lol!  I was diagnosed on 13th August, although not a friday.  I did go back to work the next day like nothing was wrong.  Talk about being numb!

I'm going through chemo now and have been told I'll more than likley have a masectomy and full node clearance in my left side. I'll also have radiotherapy, something they mentioned will be part of my treatment at the time of diagnosis.  Did they say radiotherapy would not be required?  Speaking to friends who have been through this the radiotherapy is a walk in the park compared to chemo.  The only pain so to speak is having it every day.

Hope you are doing well otherside.

    xx

  • I know just how you feel and I wish you well. It's a scary time. When I found out about my cancer, I went into the garden and kicked a bucket around (the connotation was not lost on me), but it made me feel better. I also swore a lot. Anger and fear has to be vented. I've gone through the chemo, the radiotherapy and a year of hetceptin which finished in December. Letrozole is giving me a problem and I hope to get that sorted next Monday.

P.S. my New Year's resolution was to stop swearing.........!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    All the very best

    Patsy
