Update

Hey everyone, just a update to let everyone know I've been to the doctors and they have looked at my breasts and they said the lump is hard and they have booked me in for a emergency appointment and the hospital which I'll be attending on the 21st of this month to see what the lump is... I'm just wondering if anyone had a monogram and what do they actually do as I've never had on before and I'm quite scared of the thought of having it done plus I will get seen by a specialist too

  • Hey Beth,

I just wanted to wish you all the best for the 21st and share some information I've found online about what to expect at a breast clinic appointment. I hope this helps but I'm sure some of our members who have been through this process will be along soon to offer their support and advice as well.

    Kind regards,

  • Thank you so much and I'll have a look now at the information you provided me xx, I'll keep you all informed

  • Hi Bethh046

You'll befine. Mammogramms don't hurt but can be a bit uncomfortable if you have a tender breasts. I had lumps in my breasts for years (they were water-filed cysts). Last year, however, they did find cancer and I've just gone through a year of treatment. My hospitals were marvelous and I gave them 10 out of 10. I do hope you are okay and  it turns out to be a harmless lump, if not, you will have loads of support.

    All the very best

    Hi Beth,

I am so sorry to hear that you have all this worry at the moment. Only 1 person in 8 referred to the breast clinic will be diagnosed with cancer, so here's hoping that you'll be one of the lucky ones!

Your consultant will discuss your symptoms with you before examining your breasts. S/he may then arrange for you to have a mammogram. A mammogram is a routine test for many ladies aged 50 -71 to ensure that any cancer is caught early. This is often before people are even aware of any lump. Ladies of this age group return every 3 years for further testing. However, it is also frequently used to check whether or not here is any cancer present in the breast. As Patsy told you they don't hurt, but they can be a bit uncomfortable.

At your appointment, you may also get an ultrasound done and a biopsy taken. It usually takes 1-2 weeks after this before you get the results back.

This is always a scary and very emotional time.

I shall be thinking of you on 21st and, hope that it all goes well. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    KInd regards,

    Jolamine xx
