Post operation

Hi all,

I had surgery last week to remove a small lump and 2 lymph nodes from my breast after it was found in October through my first mammogram.

It's been a rollercoaster of emotions since October, 2 biopsies, further mammograms, magseed implanted and then surgery... my poor boob!!

I'm now waiting on the results of the operation which i will receive this Friday. I'm feeling positive and hopeful that all will be good. I have been told there will be radiotherapy and hormone blockers as my follow up. Depending on the results as to whether i will need chemo.

I'm thankful that I had the mammogram as I or the breast doctor couldn't feel any lump. I'm currently feeling all the pain and discomfort of the surgery (and the numbness) but i know that will eventually get better.

Chin up to everyone going through the same or similar, we can do this

  • I too had surgery last wed., under my tongue and lymph nodes in my neck.  Still sore and hard work to eat but getting there. Regarding your last comment, chin up, it's a bit awkward at the moment but you've got to laugh, at least I try and  it does help. Fortunately my son and daughter (both in their 30s) are the same and have been tremendous, my wife too.

I get my results on the 24th.  Thinking of you on Friday. Chin up!!

  • I can imagine how uncomfortable that will be and not being able to enjoy your food  Hoping that it heals quickly for you.

We are lucky to have a good support system around us, it makes the journey easier.

Thanks for your reply and all the best in your recovery and results. Chin up just a wee bit!!

    Hi Alpha,

It is still early days and, the eating will get easier. I'm glad to hear that you've got a good support network at home. This makes all the difference.

Keep on laughing. It's the best medicine there is!

Will be thinking of you on 24th and hope that it all goes well.

  • Hi all!

Received my results today and all are very positive. My lymph nodes are clear, my margins were clear so no chemo and no more surgery needed. Grade 1, low risk breast cancer and low risk returning.

I will have 3/4 weeks radiotherapy followed by hormone blockers for 5/10 years, still to find out what ones.

Even my wounds are better feeling as the breast nurse cut the ends of the stitches... wow relief!!

Again I am truly grateful for that mammogram and urge everyone to make sure they go for theirs.

Onwards and upwards and stay positive everyone!

    Happy Friday

    Hi Anma,

Many thanks for your update. I am glad to hear that your results are so positive. I'm sure that you are relieved not to need any more surgery or chemo. It is good to hear that you've got some relief since the nurse cut the ends of your stitches.

Sadly, the number of women going for their routine mammograms has fallen. It's such a pity, when a simple mammogram can detect early cancers, before people are aware of anything untoward. None of us want a cancer diagnosis, but I am so glad that you have caught it early and, that it is eminently treatable.

I hope that you get on well with your radiotherapy and hormone therapy. Keep in touch.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Absolutely chuffed to bits for you and your family. Great news.

All the best for the future.  Col.

  • Got the all clear on Friday,  no further treatment required.  Huge relief, and many people to thank .

Cheers and good luck to everyone.   Col.

  • Hi Anma,

I had my lumpectomy on the 16th January and am now waiting for my post op appointment on the 7th February.  It's great news that you have no further surgery and are now just waiting for your radiotherapy.  I was told if my results are clear then I will just need radiotherapy and hormone blockers, also for 5/10 years - fingers crossed.

Hope you are feeling ok and not too worn out...I'm suffering from fatigue at the moment and weird sensations under and down the top half of my arm.

    Kay xx
