Lumpectomy advice

Hi. I've got a date of the 7th Feb and am a bit nervous. The lump biopsy was negative for cancer but because the lump looks like a cancerous one on the scans they want to take it out and test the lump again and the outside of it. Hopefully the results will all be good.  Fingers crossed  Any aftercare advice for after the operation would be great as I'm not quite sure what to expect. Thanks.

    Hi Lis,

Welcome to our forum. I am glad to hear that your biopsy was negative for cancer. Your consultant is obviously being very thorough because the lump looks cancerous. So often people are given the wrong diagnosis because doctors haven't pursued a 'gut feeling' and cancer is not detected until years later.

I sincerely hope that your pathology results post-surgery will be clear too.

You may feel tired after surgery. Rest when you feel the need. Eat a well balanced diet. Invest in a soft non-underwired bra and avoid travelling over speed humps whenever you can. I also invested in a padded item to go over my seat belt to stop the seat belt from digging in. It fastened over the belt and attached to itself with velcro. It was made for children, but it suited my purpose beautifully.

We are all nervous at this stage. You will feel better after your surgery when you feel that you have done something about this.

I hope that all goes well for you on 7th February. Don't forget to let us know how you get on. I had a lumpectomy 10 years ago and a double mastectomy 9 years ago, so if I can help in any way, please let me know.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thanks for your advice Jolamine. I hate speed bumps now so will definately try and avoid them! It's great to get advice from real people who have gone through these things rather than just looking at leaflets and the internet. Thanks x
