Hi Rae,

Doctors wouldn't prescribe Tamoxifen if the drug was as bad as you feel it is. They still feel that the benefits outweigh the risks.

Just a word of caution. You have not been happy taking it, but there are many women who have benefitted from it, so please be careful not to put others off taking it, just because of your own personal experience. Have you discussed your problems with your Oncologist and have you tried anything else instead?

It's not that I'm trying to put people off as such but people should be aware of the negativity with tamoxifen.

I'm sure that you're not trying to put people off, but when we don't show both sides, this can happen. Unfortunately, it is true to say that there are side-effects to most cancer treatments, but, on the whole, the benefits do outweigh the side-effects overall.

I had a long conversation with my Oncologist regarding the side effects of Tamoxifen. Her advice and statistical information was invaluable and I decided to stop taking Tamoxifen. Every person is different, some women are fine on Tamoxifen and some are not xxx

I wouldn't even knoe who to speak to about anything like that. I spoke to people who have took them and everyone of them had come of them. A couple not managed the week. Xxx

Can i ask how long u were on them for and how long it took for the side affects to go away. Xxx

I took them from Jan to April, tried a few brands. The hospital managed to get the brand that alot of women said the side effects were not too bad. So I was meant to go back on them in the June but my mum passed away and just couldn't face the side effects with everything going on. So started on them in the July and lasted until the September. It took a good couple of months for me to feel back to my old self. My periods didn't come back and it will be a year this September so I guess I have naturally started the Menopause. I was offered Acupuncture for the flushes and they have reduced so perhaps its helped? Xx
