Lung nodules: Feel totally adrift and scared

i feel my life has now totally fallen apart even though I don’t 100% know if I need to be this scared.

im currently on a waiting list for a heart valve replacement.

During the work up for surgery I have had a ct scan. I found out nearly 2 weeks ago that they found a lung nodule and while they’re fairly sure it’s nothing to worry about, they have no evidence ie past ct scans to compare it with. I had a PET scan to check it and waiting for results. The heart surgery will have a lot of bearing on this too.

however the ct scan apparently showed that I have enlarged adrenal scans and I have had no follow up appt with an endocrinologist for this aspect.

as I’m a great worrier and googler, I’m now concerned that I have malignant adrenals which has moved to my lung.

very very concerned especially as the worry is probably not doing my heart any good at this stage either.

what does everyone think. I have nobody to ask as this covers so many different health issues.

how many of you have experience of lung nodules?

  • Hello Boston54,

I think I have already responded to your other thread but I thought I'd pop by and say hello and I hope you will hear from others here who have experience of lung nodules. To increase your chances of getting a relevant reply, I've added the words 'lung nodules' to the title of your thread and I hope that someone who has been in a similar situation will be along shortly to share their story with you.

This must be such a stressful time for you but it's a good sign that they have mentioned that they are fairly sure it is nothing to worry about. Obviously you will only feel totally reassured when you have had the results from your PET scan. If you are worried about your CT scan results, perhaps you could give your doctor a call and ask whether you need to be seen by a specialist to discuss these.

The best thing to do though while you are waiting to find out more is to resist the urge to google anything - this will inevitably only make you worry more! I know it's really hard but try and keep distracted and focused on other things if you can. As you said, you want to be kind to your heart at the moment so try if you can to engage in activities that will relax you.

I do hope though that you will get all the answers you desperately need very soon so that you can concentrate on your heart operation. I hope it all goes well for you!

    Best wishes,

  • Lung nodules can be many things , i know of a couple of people that have them ,after a couple of years of monitoring them they were fine no changes

I also found i had a couple of lung nodules a couple of years ago , they started to change and grow very slowly ,had biopsy found it was cancer . However because it was picked up early on a routine xray to begin with ,its ony small and can be treated . Cancer isnt always a death sentence .although usually thats the first thing that pops into your mind .This is second time around for me ,had breast cancer 20 years ago .I find that you have to be positive ,there are so many treatments out there and if caught early its not usually a problem :) Oh and make sure you use your doctor and whoever looks after yhou at the hospital for info, thats what they are there for ,good luck :)
