Asbestos panic

My daughters husband has pulled down the ceiling in their house without checking if it contained asbestos or not, it's a old house so I'm just assuming it does. Because I'm so worried I won't go in her house because of the dust and fibres that could be left on the carpets and sofas etc and I also don't want her coming to house and bringing it in on her clothes/shoes contaminating my house too. Is this realistic or am I being silly ? it's starting to come between us as I won't visit her anymore but I'm seriously worried

  • Do you have OCD?

    Serious question?

I have had it previously...well I'll always have it, it's just under control now......but I can recall my thought process was very similar to yours.

Did the roof actually contain asbestos?

  • I'll assume your's is a serious concern, although I suspect you are worrying more than you need to. Most buildings from pre-1970 contain some asbestos, often in the form of insulation or of asbestos cement panels. But an old ceiling is most likely plaster or plasterboard. Neither of those are asbestos. Its fair to say that pulling down asbestos is not a good thing to do, but it also sounds like you are worried. Don't let this come between you and your daughter anymore. If you want to find out more about asbestos there's information on the HSE site here www.hse.gov.uk/.../.
