Tonsil cancer - husband started his radio-chemo today

Hello, just wanted to introduce myself.

My husband has just started his radio chemotherapy treatment today for left sided tonsil cancer.

I've looked at this chat and found it useful since his diagnosis before Xmas, so thought I'd now create an account and join the group so that I can ask for advice if needed. I've never posted on a forum before so I apologise if I get it wrong to start with

  • Hi

My husband has started his chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment today, he was diagnosed with tonsil cancer at the end of November so we are more than likely going through the same experiences . If you ever want to chat please feel free.

  • Hi, sorry for late reply, I've been working nights. Hope things are going well for you and your husband.

My husband just commented that he felt a bit shivery, so I did his temp and it was 38.6 so he is now on the oncology assessment unit with a cannula in about to have IV antibiotics . Not nice but reassuringly quick.

I'll accept your friend request, happy to keep in touch and chat to someone who knows what this is like

  • Hi there Tough Cookie and Mrs A

Just a quick hello and welcome to the forum. My hubby was diagnosed with stage 3 tonsil cancer in December 2015 - right side with lypmh node tumours and had 5 cycles of cistplatin chemo, 30 VMAT radiotherapy sessions and a right sided neck dissection. I just wanted to say hang in there - I know its tough watching your loved one go through such gruelling treatment but we are now 4 years post diagnosis - cancer free - in remission and living life to the full.

If I can offer any support or answer any questions - give any tips - then please ask away.

wishing you both all the best

    Emma aka Newlymarried

  • Ah Thankyou Newlymarried,

It's so nice to hear some positive feedback, We joined a tonsil cancer support group on Facebook but the horror stories on there have deflated us a bit to be honest-academia of too much too soon I think

Really appreciate you commenting all this time after, and glad you are cancer free (well your husband)xx

Can I ask if your husband was ever not able to have his chemo due to neutropenia? My husband has had a call tonight to say he may not be able to have his second chemo on Weds due to neutropenia so we are a bit deflated this evening as his mouth is just so sore he's struggling to eat now
