Asbestos in concrete

Hi , I have recently had to cut down steel reinforced concrete posts that were used for a chain link fence , I'm now a little concerned that asbestos might have been present could someone please tell me if this is the case ,many thanks.

  • Hi there,

There is some information about asbestos exposure in the ask the nurses section if you type "asbestos" into search the forum you will find that and other posts about asbestos. It seems that long term exposure (for many years) is where the main risk lies and this is what I understand to be the case from my own experience.

    Best wishes

  • Concrete in fence posts unlikely to contain asbestos, although ideally breathing in concrete dust also to be avoided, but don't fret about asbestos. Sometimes it was used in cement boards (e.g. on roofs of sheds etc and in panels for baths / doors etc) but reinforced concrete highly unlikely.
