New Year, New Decade . . . . and a cancer diagnosis

Hello

Well, this is not the way I wanted to spend Christmas or start a New Year/New Decade !

But I got my full diagnosis yesterday afternoon.

I have a grade 3, triple negative, 35mm ish (seriously that is what it says in my little book, as its an odd shape & hard to size, but the MRI will confirm it more accurately) ductal breast cancer in my right boobie.

I'm expecting a phone call on Friday to schedule me in for my MRI and oncologist meet next week. With the plan being to do 6-9 rounds of 3 weekly chemo, then surgery, then radiotherapy.

It all seems to be happening incredibly fast. From finding a lump (whilst having a coughing fit) to diagnosis in just 9 days. It certainly seems that Leeds, is a great place to get cancer, as the team have been phenomenal in how they have cared for & supported me. I feel humbled to have received such high quality care.

Aside from having Mr Custard (my name for my cancer) I'm just a middle aged momma, trying to live and love her life as much as she can :)

So, hi to everyone and I wish you all health & hope

M x

  • Hi there M.

Makes perfect sense although I'm at the stage of cracking jokes about it and my girls aren't finding it amusing. They are still in shock. Lots of tears but they will be fine. Not sure who I was convincing more everything is going to be fine!

Role on friday. Just want to crack on with the treatment now.  Have spent the last 18 months planning my wedding booked for july 4th (only been waiting 14 years) so have just postponed it for 12 months!!! Hopefully will have some hair back by then

Did you get your MRI appointment?

    Hugs and positive thoughts ️

  • Hi All,

I too, have had a New year diagnosis.

I found a lump late November, already had a doc appointment 1st week of December so mentioned it while there, she agreed that it was probably a mouse but said she'd refer me to Exeter just in case. We were on holiday over Christmas so appointment made for 21st January. Mammogram didn't show anything but during ultrasound, they decided to take a biopsy.

Results appointment made for 3rd Feb. 28th January I had so many missed calls while I was at work, I wondered what was up. When I finally managed to answer call, it turned out that they had a "cancellation" for the next day and they would "move other appointments" to fit me in...... Alarm bells were ringing big time.

Since diagnosis on 29th things have moved really quickly, I had MRI, results and on 19th February I had a lumpectomy with 4 nodes removed, and fingers crossed, 6th March I will receive good results and treatment plan.

I think it's fair to say that this year, so far,  was not part of my life plan. But mind blown with the speed and care of the professionals

Good luck to you All this year, this decade and goodbye and good riddance to all our cancers

  • Hi Marie,

Hows things?  I see it has been almost a month since your opp, how you feeling?  My arm has recovered ok after my opp and i can lift it up now, just in time for radiotherapy!  I start this Thursday and will have 15 sessions.

Hope you are ok and not in too much pain.

    Big hugs

    xx
