Knee Replacement and Leukemia

Hi,

My Auntie was diagnosed with Leukemia circa 2000 and is currently in remission, aged 60. She has been told that she needs a knee replacement however due to the Leukemia no doctor is willing to operate. She is in chronic pain and is at her wits end.

Has anyone else encountered a situation where a doctor refuses to operate due to the chance of awakening the disease and if so are there any alternatives?

Thanks,

Stuart

  • Hi pjrule1,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to read about the difficulties your Auntie is having with the knee replacement.

It's not something I'm familiar with, but if anyone here has similar experience then hopefully they'll be along soon.

You may find it helpful to talk things through with our nurses - if so, you can reach them on 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

I hope you're able to find out more soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
