I am so sorry that you are going through this. All I can really say to you is try not to worry. Keep yourself busy etc. 80% of lumps are absolutely nothing so try to remember this.

I absolutely understand that it is difficult not to worry because the very reason I am on here is through complete worry and panic over a lump I have found.

There are lots of lovely people here to support you so please ask and don't feel like you are alone.

I am sorry to hear that you are both waiting for investigation of a lump. Sadly, cancer is no respector of age. Hopefully, it is nothing untoward, but you are both certainly just as well to get it all checked out.

Beth this is always a worrying time having to wait for tests and the results. Try to keep yourself as busy as possible to distract yourself from the wait.

Krystalk, have you started the ball rolling yet by seeing your GP about this? If not, this is the first thing for you to do, as there is no point in worrying about this, yet doing nothing else?

I hope that both of you get good news in the end.

Thank you jolamine, I'm just waiting for a GP appointment as I went to the out of hours gp last night, to be honest I'm trying to keep busy and staying positive through it all but I know my partner and family especially my mum are all worrying big time.. but I'm trying to keep them thinking positive... but I'll let you know how it go's... do you know how long itll take for it all to get done... and what are the possibilities if 2 people in your family already got breast cancer for like me to have it... ( sorry if it's hard to understand that bit) xx

Your GP will listen to your symptoms and then give you a physical examination. If s/he suspects anything at all, you will be referred to the breast clinic. You will normally get an appointment at the breast clinic within 2 weeks of referral.There are tests that can be done to see if you are carrying a gene that can pass cancer from mother to child. I haven't had these done, but I think that these take a little longer than the usual tests to detect cancer. They are usually done at the breast clinic.

When you arrive at the clinic, a receptionist or nurse will check your details with your medical card. You will then discuss your symptoms with your consultant and undergo a physical examination of your breasts.. You will probably then have an ultrasound, which will show up any lesions in your breast. This is painless and you can usually see the screen yourself to see if there is a lesion present. If you were older, you might also have a mammogram, but these are not usually carried out in someone of your age. After the ultrasound, you may have a biopsy.

These tests will show up whether or not there is any cancer present, plus what type and grade it is. You usually have to wait for 1-2 weeks to get the results of these tests.

Only 1 person in every 8 people referred to the breast clinic will be diagnosed with breast cancer, so I sincerely hope that you are one of the lucky people.
