Thickening of Right Breast

Hi I'm 36 almost 37 and noticed about 4 weeks ago that my right breast seemed ever so slightly bigger than my left and I thought I could feel thickening although after constant prodding I then couldn't decide if there was or wasn't an issue! My partner couldn't notice anything or feel anything either but I couldn't shake it. I've been to see my GP today who has referred me to the breast clinic because she couldn't decide if there was slight thickening on the right too.  She said if my anxiety wasn't so bad and I didn't have history of breast cancer in the family she would have asked me to monitor and return in 6 weeks. I'm glad I've been referred for peace of mind but I'm now absolutely bricking it having decided the outcome will be one of impending doom (again anxiety) has anyone else had similar symptoms? I'm scared for my kids 15 & 12 and I don't want to be ill ️

    Hi KitKat,

Welcome to the forum. I am so sorry to hear of your worries. I certainly wouldn't worry about one breast being bigger than the other. This is something which most of us have, so nothing untoward.

You will make yourself sore if you are constantly examining yourself. I am glad that your GP has referred you to the breast clinic because of your family history and anxiety. None of us want to be ill, but unfortunately, we don't get a choice.

Breast cancer treatment has become much more successful than it used to be, so I very much doubt that you are facing  impending doom. I lost my mum to breast cancer along with several relatives and close friends, but I have been fortunate in that I have had 2 bouts in the past 10 years, yet I'm still standing! There is no need to say anything to your children until you know the outcome of any tests. Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
