Cervical cancer worries

Hi I would just like to reassure anyone who's had an abnormal smear test result to try not to worry while you're waiting for your follow up appointments or procedures, I convinced myself bad news was to follow but after having a colposcopy today feel more reassured, the nurses were brilliant and although I've had a polyp removed the procedure wasn't anywhere near as awful as I'd anticipated, everyone please have your regular smear tests as this is what prevents cancer cells developing xx

  • Thanks for your post, I just received my letter saying I have high grade dyskariosis (severe) and HPV positive. I also got my colposcopy appt for in 2 weeks. I'm proper panicking thinking the worst (as you do!). I've had irregular bleeding for over 3 years and had a colposcopy this time 3 years ago because of it but they said everything was normal then. Now my minds in overdrive! Anyone else in the same boat? X

  • Hi thank you for your experience, I have a smear middle of November with results of borderline abnormal cells, and a colposcopy boomed for the beginning of December which I couldn't do so I went on Monday, to find out the doctor told me he would for certain be inviting me back for treatment as he found cin3 cells, as you can imagine I was pretty shocked as I went thinking it was just minimal, they took a biopsy, I'm guessing this is to see if there is anything cancerous? Is this when I find out if it is or not? On Monday is 4 years since I buried my dad to cancer and watching him die was gut renching, I'm scared because I get intermittent pelvic pain, cramps bleeding/spotting 8 weeks after smear, blood clots and discharge, funny back pain sort of where my kidneys would be all of which don't give for great reading on the internet, any advice? Thank you

  • Please try not to worry as I did this and was making myself Ill, after the procedure and them explaining everything it was no where near as serious as it sounds as usually cells are found before they become cancerous, the wording on the letters and lack of info sometimes sends us into overdrive xx

  • Hi sorry to hear you've been experiencing pains as I didn't have any symptoms, just a routine smear showed up a polyp which has now been removed and sent for testing but the team at the colposcopy were fantastic, so reassuring and the treatment out there is so good now, pre cancer cells can be treated, try to be positive xx and stay away from the internet it just worries you more xx
