Lump in right breast - waiting to be seen at breast clinic

I've got a lump in my right breast, it came up about 6 weeks ago and is getting bigger. My GP initially thought it was a fibroadenoma but as it's getting bigger and painful, especially swelling up to triple the size on my period she has referred me as a non-urgent referral to a breast clinic. I am really hoping it's just a painful cyst however my armpit is getting really sore as well as being firm to touch. A little mark as well has come up exactly over the lump. The lump is hard and painful to touch however it's moveable. I don't know how worried I should be, I'm trying to put it out of my mind but it's now really sore and the mark that's come up is scary. Just don't think I can be seen for a while and it's going to play on my mind. I just don't know what symptoms are most likely cancerous. Can a lump that can be moved around cause pain in the armpit?

  • Hello Taylor2019,

Welcome to our forum! It's good that your GP is being thorough and that he has referred you to the breast clinic so that it can be looked into more closely. I hope you won't have to wait too long for your appointment. I can imagine it must be a very anxious time for you as you are waiting to find out more. Make sure you mention to your doctor this little mark that has just come up over the lump. Your doctor and the breast clinic specialists will be in the best position to tell you more about all this and answer any questions you may have about symptoms. I hope you won't mind but I have slightly edited your title so that it is more specific so that your thread can be more easily spotted by other ladies here who have been in a similar situation.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,
