Just anxious

Dear All

I'm an extremely anxious 41 year old male and I don't want to cause offence if this seems trivial. Around 3 weeks ago I noticed a small lump (around 1cm) on the toe end of my plantar region by the 3rd metatarsal. I visited an orthopaedic consultant last week who suspected it being a plantar fibroma. He referred me for an MRI which I had yesterday. Towards the end of the scan the radiographers came back in to say that they needed to inject a contrast dye. This was mentioned at the beginning of the scan and has given me additional concern. They stated this was nothing to worry about and was merely routine with any lumps they scan. It just concerned me that this was not mentioned before. It has got my mind racing that this could be something more sinister. I'm just worried!

  • Hi worried-Johnny

It’s very common to use contrast dye in scans..it helps improve the quality of the pictures being taken and in itself is nothing to worry about. Contrast dye can be used for mri and ct scans. I’ve had both types of scans with and without contrast, and it doesn’t indicate anything sinister. Hope that puts your mind at rest a little, and you don’t have too long to wait for your results.
