Recently diagnosed with melanoma in situ

Hi, I was diagnosed with melanoma in situ about 8 weeks ago. I'm very thankful it was caught early. Had my WLE 3 weeks back. Healing slowly but getting there. I'm missing swimming not been able to since early September when I had the initial mole removal. It did come as a blow, we didn't really think it was suspect but decided to be cautious - just shows.  Yesterday though I had another shock. Went for a smear test, and turns out I've a large polyp on my cervix. They be referred me for a colposcopy and GP says she thinks it Benign but I'll admit I'm a bit worried.

  • Hi shaz

im currently waiting for my dermatologist appointment for a mile check. I'm terrified!! I'm so squeamish as well I'm terrified of the biopsy as I assume il be awake. Then the wait for results!

I had a cervical polyp last year found by a gynaecologist I went to see as I was having abnormal bleeding. I didn't know I had one until she saw it and took it off there and then. I didn't have time to panic it was over so quickly and I Didn't feel a thing! like I said I'm super squeamish too! I don't want anything done while I'm awake but it really was nothing. I had a bit of cramping for a few days and bled a bit. I was black (its the stuff they use to cortorise it so don't worry if that happens) I had scans and my smear about 8 weeks after and they all came back normal. They think its hormonal why I sometimes have spotting as nothing was found (and they had a right good look) sorry I'm rambling

I just wanted to try and reassure you about the polyp as Reassurance is the one thing I always want too so I know how important it is. they are common. My friend had one while she was pregnant. My gynaecologist said she has removed so many and in her 25 year career none of them were cancer.

  • Thanks Nat! That's a real relieve to hear. It just felt like it came at me sideways. Fingers crossed it's an easy remove. Good to know about the black discharge, that'd definitely freak you out if your not expecting it!!

Best if luck with the mole check, if they do biopsy it's over quickly .

  • Hi all

quick update. I went to my appointment today and the dermatologist had a good look under the derma light thing and he said it was normal. There is only one pigment in it, it's symmetrical and the "bump" that caused me concern In The first place had gone right down. The reason I went to the docs in the first place was because it was raised and a scab formed on it. Well the scab came off in the shower yesterday and the mole looked completely normal again and it wasn't really raised anymore.i still went to my appointment today and he assured me it was fine he said it sounds like I had a spot or an ingrown hair that may have become inflamed causing it to raise and scab over but as there is nothing there now just to keep an eye on it and if if changes or gets bigger to come back.

Thank you everyone for all your advice and reassurance. I feel a bit silly now for overreacting x
