Husband diagnosed with Glioma

Hey all,

So very very new to this. My husband has recently (Thursday) been diagnosed with a brain tumour. We don't know a huge amount still, just that it's a glioma (no idea on type yet). It's 4cm big and at the front left of the brain. I am trying to find out what's what, to be honest, I don't know if there is a more common type. I know of others who have survived brain tumours, but I don't think they were glioma? So I don't know what the survivability is, I don't know if I am going to have a husband until we're 80 or if he is going to leave me in months. He's only 36 and I'm nearly 32.

I don't know what to do with myself, I am trying not to let things get to me without knowing fully what the circumstances are. But I am scared, rightly so too, but I don't know what I am scared of yet. He's gone from never being ill (beyond the occasional devastating bout of man flu) to this. I had never seen him so ill before.

Will be lurking around here over the next few months, hoping we both get through this ok.

  • Hi Jenny,

I can’t help you with any experience of the cancer your husband has but I just wanted to reach out to you at this horrible time because I have just been diagnosed with lung cancer, 2 weeks ago, and my husband is in a similar situation to you. We are 20 years older than you two but I still feel young to be going through this so unexpectedly ( especially when I was the fittest I have ever been this year!)

You are going to be a massive support to him just by standing by his side and coping as well as you can.

I hope you get more information on the cancer and the treatment plan as soon as possible. I have had lots of scans and tests done in the last 2 weeks and my follow up appointment is this evening.

Good luck and best wishes to you both.

    Joy
