Cervical Ectropian Concern

Hi

I am just wondering if anyone can help. I went for a routine screening check last week and explained that I was bleeding and that I have been for a number of months (not like a normal period though in appearance or other ways). I explained that it might stop for a couple of days but starts again if I have sex. The nurse asked how long I had  been bleeding for this time and it has been a month. She attempted the check and stopped immediately to ask me when I last saw a doctor. I told her that I have been backwards and forwards the past year to the GP to complain about the issues I am having but have just been told that I should try the coil. I have only been on the POP for three years and before that, nothing. She booked a GP appt straight away and I have an urgent referral which I know is usual. She was very concerned that I have intense itching/burning sensations on my chest and lower legs (recently my arms too) and that I also have numb, painful blue fingertips often. Basically, from the look on both the nurse and GPs face, I am now worrying but also frustrated as I have been complaining about this for so long.

Is it normal for ectropion to cause bleeding for a year? It is awful and combined with all of the other symptoms I have, it hasn't painted a positive picture at all. I am 35 and had my only child 8 years ago. I was just wondering if anyone else has had anything similar happen. I am a positive person but my experience last week has left me anything but this.

Thank you.

  • Hello JLJ

I'm sorry to hear that you've been referred following some health concerns. It's understandable that you're feeling worried about things at the moment.

I know that the majority of the members here on the forum will agree that waiting for appointments, tests and results can be a particularly difficult time.

Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for your appointment but I wonder in the meantime if it might help you to talk things through with one of our team of nurses. I'm sure that they will be able to offer some support and information. You can call them on 0808 800 4040 (Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm).

Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi!

Thank you so much for replying and for the contact details.

I have since been to an appointment in which three masses were also present (the nurse didn't mention seeing these) and the doctor didn't mention ectropion until I asked if it was that. She said there are potential signs of it but the large mass concerns her (two small ones at the bottom and a large one at the top). I am waiting to find out what these are but I have been told it is quick! Keeping everything crossed. Thank you again. I really appreciate it.  Nice to know I am not having to wait around too long at least  x
