aftereffects of BCG bladder treatment

Hi,

I got great comfort reading of the experiences of others about BCG side effects.

I had my 13th dose of BCG last Wednesday – the last of the three of ‘maintenance’.

Ever since I’ve had acute burning pain when I have a wiz, plagued by high frequency that comes on suddenly, and getting up about every 1½-2 hours during the night.

I saw my GP who gave me a course of antibiotics that gave no relief.  Until I came to this forum, I feared the symptoms were indicative of another tumour growth.  I feel more assured that they are side effects of the BCG.

I also feel a tad flu-ish sometimes, which I read is a good sign that the BCG is doing its stuff.

Best to all,

Dhuk

  • Hi Dhuk and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm really glad reading about other experiences has been made you feel more assured as you're making your way through this treatment as it's always nice to come across people that know what you're going through and hopefully some of them will stop by soon to offer their support and advice.

If you're still experiencing the pain you've mentioned above, do be sure to let your GP know that as they may be able to prescribe you something else which will be more effective than the antibiotics you had first time round.

We have some information about the possible side effects of BCG treatment on our website if you'd like to read up on it but if you have any other questions or would like to talk to someone about your treatment so far then do give our cancer nurses a call. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Wishing you all the best on the rest of this journey Dhuk.

    Kind regards,

  • Thank you kindly, Steph, for your sentments and the info.

    Best,

    Dhuk :-)

PS.  Since taking the anitbiotics the discomfort has subsided, as has the frequency for a wiz.
