Mycosis fungoides

I am a 66 year old woman living with Mycosis fungoides for the last 6 years. It has been kept under control initially with twice weekly uvb treatment for 3 years and twice weekly PUVA treatment for the last 3 years until recently when I dropped down to once a fortnight PUVA treatment. Gradually my itchiness, tingling sensations, sore skin and rashes have returned at a rapid pace to the point of being unbearable. Small lumps are appearing on various parts of body. Night time is the worst for sleeplessness due to body heat and unbearable itching. I  am now going to go back to twice weekly sessions of PUVA. I have prescribed bathing lotions, steroid creams and tablets. Because this is such a rare disease I would love to chat to someone who is going through a similar condition and do they have any advise to help alleviate symptoms.

  • Hello,i am sorry to hear about your mycosis fungoides. If i was any good with internet forums i would post a thread for you to follow. I joined this group a week ago and got some good advice,if you search down the introduce yourself pages you will find my post with information from forum members.I was diagnosed with MF last month after having two positive biopsies. For the last twenty five years or so i was troubled with dry itchy skin etc and always used a cream to help. It was only last year a skin tumor arrived and tested to be clear, from then on more and more of these tumors appeared until the biopsies proved positive last month.I have then had a petct scan then a bone marrow biopsy which both proved clear.Over the last couple of weeks i now have loads of the skin tumors and will start radiotherapy next week for my worst largest tumor before moving on to total skin radiotherapy. The only cream which takes most of the sting out of the tumor for me is a steroid cream.I hope you find more help for this condition ,if you check out the macmillan cancer support forum for T cell lymphomas and look up The highlander he has plenty of information and advice to offer over his long path with this condition. Take care and please let us know how your doing

  • Hello, thank you so much for replying to my post. I am so sorry that now you are suffering from numerous tumours. I thank myself lucky that the mf has kept relatively under control due to continuous twice weekly uvb and PUVA treatment, which has allowed me to live a normal life style, although,I have suffered relapses over the last 6 years. Like you I use steroid cream. I would also recommend baleum plus moisturising cream as this has an itching component in it and is very effective.

When I was first diagnosed six years ago it was very scary  and daunting because of the rarity of the disease.  It is now so very reassuring to know that I can  talk and share the many individual health issues we all experience with this very unpredictable cancer.  I will certainly go to the Macmillan site and read highlanders comments.  Like you I am new to this site which I  found only 2 days ago. I wish you well with your radiotherapy treatment.  Good luck for next week. Take care.
