New anal cancer. Diagnosis and stoma

Hi all,

it was confirmed yesterday that I have anal squamous cell cancer and have been advised to have radiotherapy and a stoma fitted.  To cut a long story short, I was having tests back in August, then had a colonoscopy abandoned due to pain.  I was then left until yesterday, 4 months to have a biopsy and examination under anaesthetic. I was then told the news.  I don't know what to do ? I am in limbo, part of me wants to end it all and I'm so scared and I absolutely hate pain and medical procedures and hospital. Someone please help

  • I'm sorry about your diagnosis Marty. No doubt you're going through a whole host of emotions right now but I want you to know you are not alone as our members know how difficult receiving a cancer diagnosis can be and I'm sure some of them will be along when they can to offer their support and advice. You can also talk to Samaritans about how you're feeling as well. They're available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on 116 123.
