Transfer to breast clinic

Good morning!

It is my first post and wondered if I can ask some advice...

I went to doctors a week ago because i found a lump on my breast. The doctor said it felt like a pea but is totally benign and I have nothing to worry about.. But for reassurance she will refer me to the breats clinic.

I have my appointment in 3 weeks and now I'm freaking out in case its cancer ! Why would she refer me if she feels it is totally benign?

Has anyone been in a similar situation?

Don't freak out, relax. Your doctor is following protocol and also trying to reassure you. Poor doctors nowadays are always on a loser and as we have the WWW, most people will refer to this. If your doctor didn't refer you, the chances are you woudn't believe her and want a 2nd opinion so she has your best interest at heart.
Try to relax (not easy I know) but worrying about something that may not need to be worried about is not good for you!

My sister was referred to breast clinic for a lump in her breast. It turned out to be just a cyst.

Another friend also had the same scenario.

Hope this offers some reassurance.

Thanks so much !! That does make me feel better. Knowing myself if she hadn't referred me I would be worrying if she checked me properly......

Hi th_1983,
I agree with what all the others have said. Only 1 person in 8 who are referred to the breast clinic turn out to have cancer, but you are always best to be sure.
I hope that all turns out well for you. This is a scary time waiting to find out. Keep yourself as busy as you can to make the wait seem shorter - It shouldn't be difficult to do this with Christmas just around the corner.
