Nearly 6 weeks no cervix biopsy results LLETZ

Good evening,

Thank you for taking the time for to read my post, I've been browsing for a few weeks and I've decided now is a good time to say hello and post ;)

Ive had an abnormal smear, HPV and high grade cells, I've not had a successful smear in 10 years, I beleave this is because i have a phobia of smears, when I see the spectrulum to me it's like someone is coming at me with a knife! this fear has caused my vaginal muscles to spasm and the spectrulum couldn't be put in to find my cervix.

I work full time, I'm a mum to a 5 year old, I didn't want to put anyone out taking a day off work to mind my son whilst I could cost effectively have a smear test, inspite of my fear and problems I kept at the failed smears, I  probably should of been given Valium, then 1 doctor managed a successful smear.

Results came back as above, consultants decision (failed having a colocopy, consultant couldn't get spetrulm in) Was to go under general for LLTEZ biopsy.

I'm waiting for results anxiuosly, I'm told by the hospital they are taking longer than usual to come back, they are checking daily and if I have further questions to call them back.

Because I haven't had a smear in 10 years finding it difficult concentrating in work and I'm thinking the worst, can anyone relate to my story or anyone successfully come out of a cervical biopsy with a 6 week wait?

Thank you

  • Hello, I was wondering how many weeks it took for your results to come through? Its my 6 week wait today and I called this morning and my results havent come through yet. I am feeling so anxious and this isn't the first time I have needed 2 leeps done for CIN 2. 7th of April I needed my third leep for CIN 3 and biopsy of my vulva I am feeling really impatient and getting irritated keep crying on and off. Usually my first 2 times didn't bother me so much until I get my results in the post. But this time the wait is unbearable :(

  • Hi.

Not really seeking advice because I know you're all going through the same wait, but support or a chat really.

I'm barely sleeping and anxious all of the time.

I am 33 and went for my first smear last month. I know, I'm an idiot. But I was just so scared.

I was told I had CIN 3 and HPV positive.

Went in for a colposcopy a week later, she took a couple of biopsies. Within 2 weeks I was under general for a lletz as the area was too big for her to do it under local.

While I was waiting to go into surgery, my consultant spoke to me about the biopsy results and told me that I did in fact have cancer. She suspects stage 1a1 but can't be sure. Hence the lletz. She did say that my options were another lletz if it's just in the area she thinks or a full hysterectomy. This was devastating news for me.. I do have two children and wasn't planning more, but the choice being taken away.. horrible.

She also asked if I minded her using a camera and checking my  bladder while I was under the general, as it's so close to the cervix she just wanted to be sure it hadn't spread there.

It's been exactly one week since I had the lletz. I have been for a CT scan and yesterday an MRI. I was told that I would have to wait until all the medical professionals meet on Thursday before I would receive a phone call but I have since received a letter for an appointment with my consultant. I phoned to ask what this was for and the receptionist said it was for a 'chat', which really has not put my mind at rest at all. I now don't know if I'm waiting for a phonecall still on Thursday or if I have to wait until the appointment on 23rd.

The cystoscopy was an added stress actually, I couldn't pee without severe pain for three days. Upon phoning my doctor, he gave me neproxen and antibiotics. All is good with that now thankfully.

    I'm just so anxious.

Thank you if you made it through all that. I'm so sorry that it's so long.

  • Just wanted to see how you're doing Rachel? I'm waiting for my lletz results, 4 weeks on Thursday. I was under GA too for mine too. Hope you're doing ok, I'm 34 no kids, but I have a long experience with hospitals due to another condition so if you needed support thought I'd say hi. X

  • Hey Clue!

    Thank you for the reply.

On day ten of recovery from the large lletz, I had a secondary haemorrhage while I was out walking. Was rushed to hospital and back into theatre to stop the bleeding. Stayed in overnight and now doing well.

Been for a blood test and pre-op assessment today and I am booked in for a hysterectomy on 3rd August.

I hope you hear back with your results soon, the waiting is the worst!

  • Hi, I'm just jumping in the conversation...had my hysterectomy in Dec 2018 and I am just doing more research now, trying to find out how other people got on  etc...I had 3 LLETZ before my surgery, when I was 36.

    How did your lletz go?

  • Hi Rachel, just been reading about your experience and wanted to say I have had my hysterectomy in Dec 2018 and was surprisingly OK...I just thought you might want to hear from someone who has been through it . I had CIN3 and done some LLETZ but didn't help and got the hysterectomy when I was 36.

The surgery went really well, biopsy after came negative, and had negative smear tests since, although I have to lookout for these abnormal cells on the vagina walls now!

The surgery went really well, although I was the last one to go in, having been there since 7am, no food,no water..and only got in at about 3pm, the waiting is so unnerving, but I was lucky I guess with very good nurse and hospital team, who made everything better. Only stayed for one night, had the pains after, which I was expecting, but after a couple of weeks on the sofa, I was up and even done some gardening 6weeks after. Missed the driving though...8weeks after, seemed so weird !

Anyway, please let me know how everything goes, I just wanted to say I've had a hysterectomy and I'm fine and all was OK, I hope this is encouraging !

    All the best,

    Cristina

  • Hi Cristina,

Thank you so much for replying.

I'm getting really nervous now, I go in tomorrow (Monday) for an iron infusion as I'm super anaemic apparently..

Then in Tuesday at 8am for the hysterectomy. I'm really hoping she can do it all keyhole then I'll only have to stay overnight.

I'll let you know how it goes when Im on the mend

    Xx

  • Rachel I just wanted to say, thinking of you for the next couple of days. Xx

  • Hey,

How did you get on? I hope you are recovering well. X
