I may have Cervical cancer

Hey I'm new to the forum so hello everyone.  Hope you can help me out and give me a little advice?

I've been having some tests and procedures to see if I have cervical cancer as my doctor examined me and sent me fast tracked straight to gynecologist for biopsy etc. I've also just has an internal ultra sound.  Now I'm just waiting.  Any advice or anyone in similar situation and your your experience. Im thinking the worst as my gynecologist said after my  the colposcopy that by his observations it was worrying.  So now it's a waiting game. Help!!?

  • Hi Katie

Yes I have 5 kids 4 boys 1 girl aged between 20 the oldest and 9 the youngest.

I have only told my partner ste and my sister who lives in Aylesbury as her husband had stage 4 throat cancer about 3 years ago (he's ok now) so I knew she would understand how I was feeling.

Not said anything to the kids although I'm sure they've noticed the crying but I feel a lot better today it was more shock I think.

Minskas advice and knowledge today has been fantastic really glad I've met both off you xx julie

  • Hi Kaytie

Nice to hear from you, and I’m sure you will both be great support for each other. I was diagnosed stage 2b in September last year so no hysterectomy. I was scheduled to have 5 chemo, 25 radiotherapy and then a long session of brachytherapy (internal radiation). In the end I only managed 4 chemotherapy as my blood counts dropped too far. I wasn’t able to have any internal radiation as I had a pulmonary embolism the night before I was due to go into hospital for it! This is not common at all...I was the exception to the rule! So I had extra radiotherapy, making 32 sessions in total. I started treatment on 1st November last year and finished on 24th December.

I had a check up 6 weeks after treatment followed by an MRI at 3 months and was declared NED (no evidence of disease) at the beginning of April this year. I have 2 daughters...I thought of them all the time and kept a very positive attitude through treatment and I’m sure that helped! xx

  • Thank you so much minska

Everyone is different aren't they and respond different to different treatment I'm so happy you got that end result! I will keep you updated with my journey!

    Kaytie xx

  • Thanks Katie...I wish you and Julie the best possible results...you can both deal with whatever it is and you will be stronger than you realise. Keep in touch. xx

  • Hi Umbrella

I know exactly how you feel. My only symptom is bleeding between periods and I too figured I was starting perimenopause. I'm 40. I went to the doc to see about the mini pill to try and stop the bleeding. He said that first he wants to rule out anything sinister so sent me for a smear, swabs and an ultrasound. I didn't have a transvaginal ultrasound, just a normal one. Everything was fine except the smear.

Got the letter to say I had abnormal cells. Went for a colposcopy on 5th November. They couldn't do a LLETZ as they found a lesion that is bleeding. I saw it on the screen. The gynaecologist decided against the loop because I was at risk of bleeding heavily and they wouldn't be able to deal with that in a clinic. She said she was very concerned so arranged an MRI for the 16th and I'm due in theatre on the 18th for a cone biopsy. Then I have to wait about 2 weeks for the results. I broke down in the clinic. Fortunately, my other half was with me.

My emotions have been all over the place. I didn't sleep on Tuesday or Wednesday. Little sleep on Thursday. My mind kept wandering... what if?

I managed to sleep last night and I'm feeling a bit more stable today.

It's a worrying time but I've read promising stories on here. And, I've stayed away from Google!!!

I hope your results come back soon and are ok.

    Stay strong! Xx

  • Hi Taylor

Yes it's so very scary isn't it.  It's that not knowing.

I've to ring Monday and book an MRI  and got an appointment for Thursday with gyny again.

It seems like we are in the same boat and it's good to talk to people who totally understand.

I think a goods night sleep really helps so try your hardest.  I put everything out of my mind and have slept pretty well and for the last 2 days I've felt more myself but I'm trying to keep occupied.

I've started taking multivitamins and smoothies packed with good things in them.  I'm not a massive eater so I don't want to lose goodness out of my body if I have to start any treatments.

Please keep me updated on how your getting on.

    Julie

  • Hello ladies

I’m new to the site and waiting for a ct scan after I had a polyp removed. It was prompted by post menopausal bleeding and even though the doctor said it looked fine, cancer cells were detected. So I’m waiting to find out if it’s spread.

I notice some ladies won’t have a hysterectomy. I was told that will be the next step for me. I asked what stage the cancer in the polyp is and was told stage 3 but hopefully contained within the polyp.

like so many of you the waiting is hard and my heart jumps at phone calls. Has anyone experienced this ‘polyp stage’?

i really appreciate the positive messages in the thread btw

  • Hi Debs

Welcome to the chat. Do you mind me asking what type of cancer this is? Is it uterine or cervical? The reason I ask is that I only have experience of cervical cancer and its staging, and things may be different for uterine cancer. With cervical cancer, a stage 3 diagnosis would be treatment via chemo radiation and hysterectomy wouldn’t normally be an option. It might well not be the same for uterine cancer of course. When I was first diagnosed-I had a tumour rather than a polyp- I was told I would get a hysterectomy followed by chemo radiation. However, once I had scans and my cancer was staged at 2b, that wasn’t possible.

I’m hoping for the best possible results for you from your scan...the waiting is very difficult.  I’m currently waiting for the results of a petscan, and no matter how many scans I’ve had I still hate this waiting period! xx

  • Hi Minska

thank you for replying I don’t mind you asking at all as I’m a bit in the dark and obviously haven’t asked the right questions of the hospital!

I’m told I have an adeno carcinoma but didn’t think to ask if it was uterine or cervical. I think the shock affects your ears!!

  • Hi Deb

The shock definitely affects your ears! I have cervical adenocarcinoma..it can hide up there and be difficult to detect. There are several different types of cervical cancer and this type is less common than squamous cell. I couldn’t think of a single question to ask when I was diagnosed-I was on my own for that appointment but I recommend taking someone with you for future appointments if you can...you can miss a lot in the flurry of information and the shock and the extra pair of ears is very useful. My partner tells me things after appointments sometimes that I literally don’t recall hearing.

You will be allocated a CNS-cancer specialist nurse-who should be a good source of advice. Have you got an appointment with a consultant yet or will that come after your scan? xx
