Scared stiff

hi I’m 31 years old and for the last 5plus years I’ve had blood when I wipe and find it quite difficult to pass a stool I have to really strain after I finish a bowel movement I then have a lot of clear or yellow mucus, there is a lump inside and I can feel it pertruding whenever I strain, I have lived with this for a few years as I was too scared to go to the drs (now realise how stupid that was) I don’t have any other symptoms and feel generally well in myself I finally went to the drs and they said it’s prob piles and gave me some cream this didn’t clear it up so went back, I then got referred for a colonoscopy which I had done yest, it was all very stressful and I was a mess, they have said my bowel is all normal apart from this lump.. they had to get another dr in to look at it as they were unsure what it was, I was panicking and asked if it was cancer and they said they don’t think it is but it needs to come out, fast forward to today I spoke to the hospital and they said I have been urgently referred to have it removed under GA! I’m terrified can’t sleep or think straight! I’ve had lots of blood tests and all cane back normal. On my report yest it says a benign Polypoid lesion whatever that means? Can anyone please give me any advice? I’m so scared and worried!

  • Hello Nichola,

Welcome to the forum although I'm sorry to hear about the health problems that you've been dealing with.

It's good to hear that all your recent blood tests have come back normal. It's understandable that you're feeling worried though after being told that you need to have an operation to remove a lump. Try to keep in mind that the results you've been given are that the lump is benign which is good. Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for the surgery and once you're recovered your symptoms will improve.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi thanks so much for replying, it’s made me feel abit better :) yes that’s what I keep reminding myself but as they called someone else in to have a look at it, could they tell that it was def benign just by looking at it? As they didn’t tell me that face to face they said they can’t for def tell me it’s not cancer just that they don’t think it is but then when I got home I read the report that it said benign so I got abit confused, then being told they want to urgently remove it made me worry again xx
