Anyways they agreed to blood test, but I thought it would just be a normal blood count they wanted no I just picked up the forms and there testing for loads of things. But I googled the test and I can find it only comes up with cancer so are they looking for cancer surely they should of told me this, but his test are.. bjp -free light chain screen

  • Hello Tamarra

I'm sorry to hear that your son has been unwell on and off for the past year. It's natural to be worried when a child is unwell and I'm guessing that your health anxiety makes this even more so.

It's reassuring that the check ups your son has had so far haven't raised any concerns to any of the Dr's that he's been seen by. The blood tests that you mention are all normal routine blood tests. Unfortunately though looking for information on Google will nearly always give you a worst case scenario and this will only heighten your anxiety.

Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for the results to come back and they will offer you some reassurance.

    Best wishes,

  • Thankyou for replying I am going crazy, he had his bloods done yesterday witch has traumatised us all. Then I get a phone call from my doctors 5 hours after the bloods have been taken I knew something was wrong instantly. Anyways she said he has to go for more because they couldn't test the full blood count because they didn't write his last name on the bottle, great, one test has came back borderline witch was the LDH one and when I asked her what this means she said blood cancer. I at automaticity froze I couldn't speak and she said he will have to go back up for more test so I have to make a appointment with children's centre again, now I Cnt sleep eat think proberly I Cnt take it in, I have a daughter aswell so need to keep it together

  • Hi Tamarra, A very scary time. Two things to hold on to: 1) your child has not been  formally diagnosed yet, so it could still turn out OK  2) Even if it doesn't, one of the great cancer success stories of the last 40 years, is childhood leukaemia. They are now often routinely cured, which was not the case 40 years ago. I wish you the very best, Harry
