Hello everyone,
My hubby is 58 and has just had results of a biopsy from under his tongue. He is to see the consultant next week to discuss urgent surgery. I am very confused because hubby's reaction is "oh, it's nothing really, they are just covering themselves. I won't be going for that appointment".
My first thought had been that they were breaking news gently. The registrar told us that the abnormal cells found were "moderate to severe and although it isn't actually cancer, we must treat it as if it is". He then talked about removing the "area" and after my asking precise questions, this increased to the lymph glands in his neck, some of the tongue, etc. (jaw?)
Cancer is rife in hubby's family and I just wonder if anyone checks other parts of the body before operating on this one area? For example, it seems pointless to carry out such invasive surgery, only to find that he has lung cancer and/or it has spread to lots of places.
