Swollen lymph nodes right side for over a year

Hi,

Im new. I got a swollen lymph node back well over a year ago and it has not gone down. Its started itching up my right side of my neck and jaw. I felt terribly tierd and breathless, ive not been poorly like a cold  cough, infection..I have been to the doctors countless amount if times, bloods have been done. However... i went yesterday and theres more then one on my right side now.. 3 there quite big like 1 a cm and 2 half a cm and a few tiny ones my left... which i did not know about. All my previous bloods fine... the doctor has put in for the ones that was previously not asked for and ill be having a chest xray next week. What is this about? Im 28 and im so bugged out with frustration... My shin is burning ( dont know if this is related ). I was tested for melanoma of the nail back a year ago because i had a dark line running through it... had it biopsy and he said it wont come back.. it did but darker! And it was retested. He said he does not know what it was... great. Anyway he cut the lot out and it hasnt come back. The lynthnode was around the same time... im scared that it may have been the start of secondary cancer... could my lymph nodes carry a cancer to my finger nail and it not be detected ( That is if i am carrying it ) The doctor did mention cancer yesterday about my lymph nodes.. shes going to ring me monday after she has spoken to someone with a awnser for a scan. As they are under 2cm they need to make a decision. Its all very confusing. She has not said i have it, she mentioned it as a light possibility. Thanks x

  • Hiya

So sorry you've been going through so much and that it sounds like you've hardly got any answers or reasonable explanations.

Next time I would ask what kind of cancer they are talking about with regards to the lymph nodes.

The itching and fatigue along with lymph nodes could point to lymphoma but there's so many other things it could be too, but it's worth being aware of it.  Don't let them ignore those other symptoms either, or say it cant be it because of you're age.

I hope they manage to figure out what's wrong. It sounds like a biopsy is the best bet to figure it out as it'll give a definite answer but getting one of those is easier said than done.

Fight your corner and don't give up!

I know the GPS that first saw me would be baffled to find out about my eventual diagnosis, so if you're not happy make sure to get a second opinion.

    All the best

    Rose

  • Hi, so i went this morning at 9am to the hospital had all bloods done and a chest x-ray. The The doctor rang me at 5pm.. cant believe how quick the results got back, they are both normal. She has forwarded me on to the neck and head clinic. She said if its anything nasty she will eat her hat. My breathing is still tough, feels like the back of my wind pipe is pushing forward. Really uncomfortable.. i have read a few times, lymphoma can be missed via bloods. I thort they was x-raying my lynthnodes but it was my lungs.. i just have a feeling something is really still not ok? Hopefully ill be able to get a appointment ASAP. I will update... picking my paper work up at 8.30am tomoz x

  • OH! Also... i had my tonsils removed when i was 6. Apparently these help flush the lymph nodes out, i asked the doctor maybe thats why? She agreed it could be a possibility.. My mum also sufferd with her lymph nodes swelling up all through hers 20s.
