Bleeding for a month

Hello,

I have been bleeding for 4 weeks now with no other symptoms. I am on the pill and have been for 7 years with not many problems. In the last year I have been experiencing pain during sex, I bleed after sex and have regular lower left pelvic pain. I was sent for an ultrasound and a transvaginal scan and both came back normal however it was noted that I was in a lot of pain during the transvaginal scan. I had sti tests done and also come back clear. My doctor referred me for a laparoscopy (possible endo) and I'm still waiting for that 5 months later with no surgery date booked in.

My current concern is that I have been bleeding for more than 4 weeks now. I was not due a period, hadn't had sex for at least 2 weeks prior and I am not pregnant. A week after bleeding I visited my doctor who said that if I walked in there and was 25 and said these symptoms he'd be sending me for a smear test which obviously worried me. I'm 22. He suggested checking for stis again so I was booked in with the nurse a couple of days later. She told me I'd get a phone call about the results and I asked what would happen if the tests came back clear and I was still bleeding and in pain and she told me there was nothing more than could be done I'd only be told to take paracetamol. The tests subsequently come back clear. After bleeding for 2 weeks I stopped taking my pill and forced a period to rule out that it was my body which needed a period and that's why it was bleeding (even though the blood/pain I was having was completely different). The period I had in that week was the worst I'd ever experienced in both amount of blood and extreme pain. I went back on my pill and the period blood stopped but the same kind of blood I had before the period was still there and it's now been 4 weeks.

i am very worried, please can someone advise either any ideas what it could be or what I could do next? It's ruining many parts of my life currently and started to seriously get me down. :(

thanks

  • Hello Jade13,

Poor you I can imagine it must be such a stressful time for you. It's good news though that your scans  and all your tests have come back clear. It might be worth getting in touch with your GP again or asking for a second opinion on this. Do mention that you stopped taking the pill at some point and went back on it and whether the bleeding you are currently experiencing might somehow be linked to the pill you are on.

5 months is a long time to wait for the laparoscopy and I hope you get some clarity on all this soon.

    Best wishes,

I managed to contact my doctor who spoke to me over the phone. He suggested changing my pill and asked me to go and collect it and start it that day. He also gave me the phone number for the secretary of my surgeon so I will ring Monday to hopefully reduce the amount of months having to wait for my surgery!

Unfortunatley I tried to collect the pill from my chemists who said the pill that I had been prescribed was out of stock due to manufacturing issues so will have to call my doctor again on Monday.

    Thanks :)
