I would like some advice

I'm posting to get some advice, last Thursday the 24th I woke up with a sore throat early hours, I went to get a glass of water and noticed it was painfull to swallow so I took a look in the mirror and saw that my right tonsil is very swollen and red. I waited through the weekend to see if this would get any better but it has got worse, I haven't been experiencing any flu like symptoms but my neck feels swollen on one side so this morning I took a trip to the doctor's office, my throat was looked at, she also felt my neck and asked about other symptoms, she said my neck is deffinatley swollen one one side and the tonsil is very red and enlarged, she told me there was no puss filled spots on my tonsil which would indicate tonsillitis so she ruled this out, I was told to buy Difflan Spray and contact the doctor again if my symptoms suddenly worsened. She also left the room to discuss my symptoms with another doctor, I feel slightly confused as to what this could be if it is not tonsillitis, I felt as though there were other possible causes she could of discussed with me but did not want to at this time. I'm just wondering has anyone else experienced this? I have had bouts of tonsillitis in the past that have improved within 2 to 3 days, both tonsils would always be large but I am on day 5 with no improvement and only one very swollen tonsil! I hate to Google things!! But the first thing I did that first night was Google one swollen tonsil and j was horrified to see tonsil cancer! I am only 24, and im pretty worried about this now, more so after seeing the doctor! Any advice would be much appreciated, thankyou!

  • Hi Jadeb,

Thank you for posting. I see from your post that you are worried about some symptoms you have. The best thing to do is keep using the recommended spray and contact your GP if this symptom persists for longer. When you are worried that you may have cancer, it can be tempting to look for answers online, but this can end up increasing anxiety rather than making you feel better. And the only person that can diagnose you is your doctor.

    I hope this is helpful,
