Biopsy clinic - is 2 further appointments normal?

Hi,

I'm BRCA1 confirmed so have yearly MRI scans. Unfortunately this year I got a follow up appointment for more tests required. I then went to a one stop clinic, before seeing the consultant I had 5 mammograms (called in twice by different radiographers) because they struggled getting the right angle, then finally saw the consultant who did an ultrasound, about 4 core biopsy samples with the one that makes a noise. She then placed a titanium marker in at the same time as the biopsy then had a final mammogram to confirm the markers location.

The consultant said the images looked suspicious enough that she wanted to pre warn me for a cancer diagnosis. She then asked if it was cancer, what hospital would I want the treatment at! So I left that appointment with 2 further dates, one to return to the screening clinic for the results and an appointment for the following day at hospital to see a surgeon consultat.

Probably a stupid question but does this sound fairly conclusive of a pending cancer diagnosis or has anyone else been given the 2 appointments straight away?

I'm trying to be optimistic but my husband is thinking the worst so as you can imagine it's a pretty stressful time in our house. I also hav a nearly 3 year so worrying about her and how she would cope if it came to surgery.

Quick question over ...but if anyone has had a simsimi experience please let me know....

Thanks

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Sor although I'm sorry for the reason you're joining us.

I can understand why you may be thinking the worst but try not to jump to any conclusions (if you can) until the results have come back.

We have many ladies on the forum that have been through the breast screening process so hopefully you'll hear back from some of them soon but you're more than welcome to talk things through with our cancer nurses on 0808 800 4040 as well. They're available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Wishing you all the best with your next two appointments Sor.

    Kind regards,
