Scared

Hi,

I had the LLETZ procedure in 2017 after a CIN 2 diagnosis. For the past two months I have been having spotting 10 days before my actual period is due, accompanied by a foul smelling discharge. I went to my GP soon after the symptoms began with my concerns given my history. I felt my GP was quite blasé about it, although he did refer me for a transvaginal scan.  He prescribed a course of antibiotics and tried to reassure me that it was probably just an infection that has caused the smell and bleeding and nothing else but I am not convinced. Unfortunately a few weeks after finishing the course of antibiotics the bleeding and smell returned like clockwork 10 days before my period....

I have just finished another course of antibiotics after going to my GP again, scan will be on the 7th of next month. I am beside myself with worry....I don't know how to deal with these feelings....

  • Hello D40,

I hope this new course of antibiotics has worked and dealt with the infection - you did the right thing to go and see your GP again and if symptoms still persist, perhaps you could get a second opinion. You can find out more about this on this page

It won't be long now before you have your scan and hopefully get some definite answers on all this. Waiting for results can be nerve-racking. The best way to deal with this agonizing wait, as many on here will tell you is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

  • I had a similar treatment for abnormal cells, must of been about 11 years ago. I've had a slight unusual discharge before each period ever since. I talked the the doctor who did the treatment about it and she said it was hormonal changes. It may well just be one of the side effects of the treatment. Hope your scan goes well for you.

  • Hi Lucie,

Thank you so much for your reply. A stronger course of antibiotics so far has cleared things up but I do worry that after a few weeks, that it may return again.  Your right I do need to avoid looking online...you would think as a student within the NHS that I would have listened to the many warnings around doing that, but I couldn't help it as I am so worried. At this point I need to take it a day at a time, wait and see what the results of my scan say and then take it from there. Otherwise I am going to find it hard to function which I cannot afford to do right now.

Thanks for the advice and encouragement, it has really helped me to get back some focus.

I can only hope for the best with scan and results.

Thanks again Lucie, I really appreciate it.

  • Hi Kelsco,

Thanks for your reply. Yes I did wonder if it had anything to do with the LLETZ procedure but thought that since I had it almost 2 years ago that it couldn't be related to the procedure itself. That has definately given me something else to think about other than the worst case scenario.

I have had some changes in my cycle since LLETZ but nothing this worrying or drastic. I will try and keep a positive outlook and you sharing your experience has helped a great deal.

    Thank you.

  • Hi D40,

I know this is an old thread but I wondered if you could tell me what the outcome of your discharge before period etc was?

I am having the exact same issues and panicking about cervical cancer as this discharge has a foul smell and it only appears once a month about 5 days before my period is due. It's also accompanied by pelvic cramps.

please I am going out of my mind with worry so would like to hear how you're getting on? Thanks x
