Just been diagnosed with Tonsil cancer

What was first thought to be a wisdom tooth related infection has now been confirmed as tonsil cancer.  Had a dental hospital appointment last Saturday then an emergency appointment with an ENT consultant on Monday followed by a CT scan & biopsy of my left tonsil under general anaesthetic.  I have an appointment later today to get my results

All a bit scary as I am 50 years old, fit, don't drink or smoke, in shape and have never had a day off work in my life but highlights the life lottery that can be cancer.

Unless the news is very bad and worse than they were anticipating on Monday, then I am determined to stay positive and fight this was everything I have got for the good of my wife and two children.

It is very reassuring to have a forum like this and to feel you do not have to go through this on your own.  Finally I am a workaholic businessman who has just realised some things in life are more important

  • I really hope and pray everything goes well for you please keep us up to date when you get your results so we know how you get on good luck

  • Thanks Sophie

    Appreciate the kind words.

Emotional day at the hospital but my cancer has not spread and is contained within my left tonsil and some of my lymph nodes in my neck where the lump is

Probably as good as it was going to be so I am very grateful and relieved.  3 months of treatment ahead comprising radiotherapy 5 days per week for 6 weeks and chemotherapy one day per week over the same period followed by 6 weeks of recovery time and hopefully then the all clear.  Appreciate this will be a long and difficult road but  just relieved it was not  the 6 months of treatment they said i might need on Monday

I would like any views on the trial I have been asked to join which involves new immunology drugs as well.  I have a massive information pack to digest before making a final decision on Monday

Tough day but could have been a hell of a lot worse

I plan to post regularly my experiences and hope to get advice from others who have experienced similar
