Breast tests.

Hi all,

I have been having a read through everyone’s posts and I’ve eventually plucked up the courage to share my worries!

I went for a mammogram on my breast to have cysts which I regularly get drained. I had the mammogram, then went through to the ultrasound where I thought they would drain the cysts as I’ve had done twice before. When I was in there they drained two cysts but couldn’t drain a third, and informed me I had an area of concern which they pointed out, I have very dense tissue in one breast (the one with the cysts) but there was a shadow, they took a biopsy there and then and invited me back a week later for the results.

when I returned, the Doctor told me the results had come back clear of cancer, but there was still an area concerning them. I was asked to go back the following week for a contrast enhanced mammogram, I attended that appointment and was told the GP would have my results in 10 days! Unfortunately, I had a phone call the following day asking me to go in the following week for more samples to be taken.

I attended that appointment where they did an ultrasound guided biopsy, I now have to wait 3 weeks for these results. My worry is, does this now mean I have cancer? The lump they took the biopsy from/near (I’m assuming) now seems half the size. Any honesty on this matter would be gratefully received..

  • Hi Luce and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to hear about the ongoing problems you've been having and in particular this recent reason to visit the clinic.

Firstly it's great news that your Consultant said all your initial results came back clear. Given that you've had on going problems with your breasts there could be any number of reasons that they've asked for the additional tests. Although I know that that doesn't help you when you're waiting to find out the results.

Sometimes it can help to talk these things through while you're waiting and so if you're like to talk to one of our team of nurses you're most welcome to give them a call. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Hopefully when you go for your next appointment the Consultant will be able to answer all your questions and give you some reassurance.

Do let us know how you get on.
    Best wishes,
