Hello all I was diagnosed with cancer in my right ear and parotid gland in January. I had a six week course of radiotherapy every day for 5 days a week plus chemotherapy once a week. At the end of the therapy sessions an MRI scan showed no improvement. I then went onto immunotherapy and am due session 5 on Wednesday October 2nd. So far immunopherapy seems to work! I haven’t got any worse!
in terms of diagnosis I had pain in my right ear starting in October 2018. After repeated trips to the GP I was referred to our local hospital ENT department. They did a CT scan of my head and advised me I had cancer and not as assumed an east infection.
Since diagnosis I have lost all hearing in right ear, an open lesion behind my right ear, my right eye is permanently closed so I’m essentially blind in one eye, also permanent swelling / uncomfortable feeling in my right jaw and face. I lost my swallow so now have a PEG feeding tube in my stomach. Also after 1st immunotherapy infusion I completely lost my sense of balance and ended up spending 6 weeks in hospital.
Back home now and just about able to walk a few paces! Everyone thinks I’m so much better. I can eat again just about.
The oncologist said this is a one in a million cancer. Does anyone else have a similar experience? A year ago I was perfectly fit and healthy and enjoyed mountain biking several times a week. Today I’m completely house bound and totally dependent on my wife for care and support. I’m a 57 year old man.
