CIN1/CIN2

Hello

I have just come back from having my colonoscopy and the doctor told me my result will probably come back as CIN1 or CIN2 I have read several times that that CIN2 isnt cancer yet just need reassurance. (HPV also was found) I have been told the results will take maybe 8 weeks, i was just wondering how long cells take to turn into cancer because of HPV? I was told that if I have to have further treatment if I have CIN2 this can take 6 months, I was told also that I can have GA for the procedure?. Just thinking ahead hopefully it will be CIN1:)  thank you!

  • Hi Hazeldee

CIN 1,2 and even 3 aren’t cancer-they are pre cancerous cells and it can take a long time for abnormal cells to become cervical cancer...could even be 10 years. HPV causes abnormal cells but these can be treated easily in the early stages ...long before anything turns nasty. I don’t personally know anyone who’s had a GA for cell removal although I have read it’s possible. The majority of people have the treatment with local anaesthetic. xx
