Papillary thyroid cancer treatment choices.

Hello

Im new to this site but have read some similar stories to mine. In June this year I was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer, after what feels like a rollercoaster of misdiagnosis and the doctor ‘moving the goal posts’!

I now find myself in the favourable position where I have a choice of treatments. I have been offered the ION trial, radio iodine or do nothing but have regular checks, bloods and ultrasound.

At my appointment with the specialist in Newcastle he kindly sat and talked through all options for my stage 2 PTC with possible lymph involvement.

I was sure I’d go for the trial but now find myself completely unsure as to what to do.

Has anyone had similar choices? I know the decision is a personal one but would love to hear how people came to those decisions and how life has been since?

Thank you in anticipation xx

  • Hi Gem and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm really glad the specialist sat down with you to talk through all your options but I can understand why you'd want to hear from others.

Fingers crossed my reply will encourage some of our papillary thyroid cancer members to pop by and share their experiences with you about the treatment they opted for and how they came to that decision but you're more than welcome to join in on the discussions you've come across already.

Our cancer nurses are available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m if you'd like to talk through your options with them as well.

I know it will be tough but I know you'll get there in the end.

Wishing you all the best Gem,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
