Emergency ENT referral

Hi guys

Today I had my ENT referral, I’ve had a sore throat forever, constant tonsillitis throughout my life, over the past year it’s been persistent! last week I found a hard lump near my left tonsil, I thought it was a tonsil stone but couldn’t remove it as I normally would and the pain was different so saw my GP, resulting in today’s appt

He has booked me in for emergency tonsillectomy, circles cancer writes for histology and sent me for pre-op, which I completed and left......

Now home I will await contact I’m guessing for a date? I’m a little concerned as I’ve been going back and fore my gp since jan with persistent sore throats, chronic fatigue to the point I can’t get out of bed, severe pains in my joints, night sweats! I had an episode of periorbital shingles end of jan and they queried encephalitis was hospitalised for ten days and just diagnosed with herpes simplex......but I’ve not felt well all year! They’ve referred me to chronic fatigue but I’m starting to think maybe there is more to this than just chronic fatigue .......could it be cancer!

As a medical professional myself I’ve known something isn’t right but just wanted to get some advice from you guys that have been through similar yourselves

Feeling very concerned.......

  • Hello Cand0511,

Welcome to our forum.  I hope you won't have to wait too long to get a date for your emergency tonsillectomy and that you find out soon what has been causing all these issues. Try not to worry too much if you can and to trust your medical team. However if you feel something isn't quite right, perhaps it would not hurt to try and get a second opinion. You can find out more about how to do this on this page.

I hope you get to the bottom of all this very soon and that your operation goes smoothly.

    Best wishes,
