Chemo or no Chemo

Ive left it late bcos ive to give my decision to Say yay or nay to Chemo in 36 hrs. Just a hello at this late hour and I’ll hopefully get some sound advice tomorrow. All the best

  • Hi junior, you have left it late. First you have not said where or what the cancer is in the body. What stage of cancer diagnosis are you. Do you have any idea of  the particular names of the Chen drugs you might be having. Would you prefer quality over quantity. So based on not knowing any of that it’s a difficult question for anyone to really answer. I will just say anything below a stage 4 of course you have to go into  chemo. Depending on the drugs/ there are some pretty nasty nasty drugs, I had one that literally almost killed me after the second IV. Had I havevhad one more I would have died. From the chemotherapy not cancer. If it’s a platin drug with something else then yes go for it . What I mean by a plating drugs are the platinum standard of drugs. Like 2 I can name one is CISTERPLATIN. The others one I know the name I know of COSTAPLATIN. I think there are more but they are the only 2 I know the name of. I have had the CISTEROLATIN. With a drug called VENARELBIN. Anyhow whatever you decide good look xx

  • Hi. Thanks.

Its all come on so quickly. After my biopsy i found myself unable to stand (12weeks) Still the same. Lie on my sside al lot but comfy. Had a single radiotheraphy to see if rhat helped. Didnt appear to. (3weeks now)

anyway...Ive been told am metestaic..spread to Lun, liver, spleen and now bone (back) has just been mentioned. At the moment I am relatively comfortable and have a decent mindset & quality of life going. I always said id rather do that that rush headlong into chemo that may not even do me much good anyway.

The drudgs combo i have would be CARBOPLATIN combined with PACLITAXEL. Now this is where i need to have my Q’s ready for Doc. Pretty sure he said one was over an 18 week period of once per week. The other would be combined every 3 weeks. So thinking 18 single diese and every 3rd week the combo of 2?? Does that make any sense? The registrar said the consultant advised YES, go for it as im only 53. Im torn between pittering along as I am...or rushing myself into a quick grave(morbizd I know) atm i like this quality better. Thanks for reading. Hope it made some sense

  • I made my own decision in 2013 - the prognosis with chemo underestimated my life expectancy with chemo by (so far) 4 years.

Cancer care defnitely isn’t an exact science!

    Good luck :-)

  • hi junior, if it extends your life, you have no option but to go for it. Regarding the 18 week period, how it works is you have IV chemotherapy every 4 weeks, during the 4 week you will also take oral chemotherapy. You have your blood done as normal. They phone you and then give you the go ahead or not. Sorry it’s taken me so long to get back to you...... best wishes

  • Hi Junior65

I just read your post and noticed that the chemo combo you are considering is the same as the one I’m on (Carboplatin and Paclitaxel).  I had my first treatment two weeks ago and the side effects really weren’t as bad as I’d been expecting.  The main side effects I had were fatigue and achy bones.  Hair loss is pretty much guaranteed and I expect this to happen in the next couple of weeks.  I know everyone is different and responds differently to various treatments, but thought it might be helpful to share my experience as it really hasn’t been too bad at all so far.

I hope everything goes well for you, whatever route you decide to take.

    Sx

  • thank you so much for your replies. Ive had bother signing in and out rhe acc. Im pleased to hear symptoms not as bad as expected. Was actually cindidering saying NO but i think ive got to give it a cbance as oains starting to kick in more and more. Thanks again so much

  • Hi Junior64
