Lymphoma diagnosis - tips for accepting?

Hi everyone. I am a 25 year old woman living in London and have just found out I have Lymphoma. I’m waiting to discover how bad things are, I have had biopsy results confirming,  but I still feel absolutely just.. heartbroken? I don’t know if that’s the right word but it feels like heartbreak, not to trivialise anything.

I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to get through this first process of telling everyone, communicating your feelings to your friends family boyfriend etc?

Also if anyone has any tips on the awful body aches please let me know. Nothing is working atm.

Either way I’m glad this community is here at a time of feeling very alone, even when surrounded by fantastic people.

  • Hey

Im so sorry for your news, I’ve just started treatment for non hodgkina lymphoma (age 29) and I know exactly how you feel. Telling people isn’t easy and unfortunately I just had to rip the plaster off so to speak when it came to telling family and friends. I found the whole experience quite strange as I was comforting them! I tried to keep things light making jokes etc for example I couldn’t possibly wash the dishes as I had cancer but some people just couldn’t handle them.

Unfortunately I can’t help with the symptoms as I didn’t have any even though I’m at stage 4. My oncologist had told me that for the foreseeable future they are my gp so maybe you could ask them if there’s anything they can prescribe you?

    good luck xx

  • So sorry to hear about your diagnosis

I am 27 and diagnosed with stage 3 Hodgkin's lymphoma with spleen involvement. Similarly to Lila I had no symptoms other than a tissue biopsy confirming I had lymphoma and some localised groin pain on my right side.

I would try and take everything as it comes, it's a whirlwind time and you'll have a lot of questions. Try writing them down so you don't forget when you're at appointments.

Lymphoma is a very treatable cancer even in later stages. Please try not to worry.

    Wishing you well

    Rose
