Small Lump & Hoarseness

Hi All,

Hoping someone can put my mind at ease...

I noticed a small lump on the right side of my neck about 3-4 months ago when I was living in Italy. After having a battery of blood tests, all of which were fine, the doctor concluded that it was just 'one of those things' and that it would go away over time. Three to four weeks later, and with the lump no smaller, I followed up with the same doctor who recommended a scan. The scan revealed the following: normal-sized lobes with a homogenous echostructure. No changes to bilateral salivary glands. In the laterocervical area, bilaterally, the presence of reactive lymph nodes is appreciated, maximum diameter 17 mm. The specialist conducting the scan said I had nothing to worry about and that I just had a bit of inflammation.

Fast forward two months and the lump is still there, although no bigger (maybe marginally smaller). However, what really concerns me is that I have also had hoarseness for the past two to three months. I thought it was just a lack of fluid because I exercise a lot, but no matter how much I drink, it never seems to go away entirely. I now also have some soreness in my neck when I eat hot or spicy food...

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Best,

KR

  • Hello KR and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to hear that you've been dealing with this lump and ongoing hoarseness for a while now. It sounds positive that all your tests so far have come back as clear.

You're obviously still worried by the fact that your symptoms haven't resolved so it would make sense to go back to your GP. Hopefully they will be able to offer some reassurance but if further investigation is necessary then they can organise that.

I hope that things improve soon.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Jenn,

Thanks so much for your response, I really appreciate you taking the time. I will book in to see my GP when I get back and hopefully get things resolved.

    My very best,
