Swollen lymph node for over a year

So in June 2018 I was suffering real bad with a sore throat. Constant pain when swallowing and even just in general. I had loads of time off work, and I then noticed a lump in the side of my neck. I had countless doctor appointments with ‘could be this could be that’ with no real answers, antibiotics did nothing. Beginning to worry I demanded some answers and finally managed to get referred to ENT. Had an appointment in October 2018 for an ultrasound on my lump, they had no concerns and said it was just a swollen lymph node, but I had no reasons as to why or what could cause it or how long it would last. They also checked my throat and said it could be acid reflux. But tablets they prescribed did nothing. I had a follow up appointment around 6 months later explaining to them that the lump was still there and I was still having issues with a sore throat. I felt like they wasn’t taking me seriously and fobbed me off with some throat spray. This is an ongoing problem and I feel like I’m constantly having pain in my throat, and with this lump that’s been there for over a year too it’s causing me to stress even more. I thought it would of gone down by now and I’m worried in case something has been overlooked. Am I right in worrying? Should I go back to the doctors? What more could they do? Any advice is welcome.

  • I'm in a more mad situation so I've had a swollwt lump node for over 5 years now!!! It goes big and small all the time but it is slowly growing in size now 5 years this is I thought it was from a tooth problem I had one one side but it's clearly not and I have been to the shooting star cancer unit for it checked and the se as you was told it's just a swollen lymp node in the dentist they don't seem bothered with it either even though I mentioned it every time now it's starting to get painful and it's grown more since it was last checked 3 years ago I don't know what to do I'm 29

  • I can understand where you are coming from! I’m nearly 28 and it’s very frustrating to feel like they just want to push you aside and not actually help you get to the bottom of it. I don’t feel like my lump has changed in size and neither is it painful... however if this is what you are experiencing if I were you I’d go back to your GP and demand more tests. And don’t rest until they do something. I found they were very reluctant to refer me to ENT but I pushed and pushed until they had no choice. I feel like almost harrassing them is the only way they will do something!
