Symptoms of colon cancer

Hi my names linzi, im 31 years old. I have been worried for a long long time now and have not had alot of luck from medical physician's with my symptoms so was hoping people who have experienced it would be able to help me, ease my mind, anything lol.

Basically 5 years ago i was taken into hospital in the middle of the night in so much pain in my stomach, i was sick also. I had my appendix removed the next day but the doctor told me he saw nothing wrong with it but thought its best to remove it just incase. I was sent home.

I started suffering regularly after that with stomach pains (felt exactly like contractions, just lasted longer, about 5-15 mins at a time), bleeding from by bottom, diarrhea, constipation. This mostly happened in the morning and would last anywhere from 1-6 hours. I would occasionally get pains of an evening/night time.

I started seeing my GP regarding my symptoms to which i have been told its constipation, piles, gastroenteritis, ibs, stomach ulcer.

I had an endoscopy which was fine, sent home and nothing else done to determine my pain etc.

I also had a scan which was fine.

My mum was round my house one evening and i showed her how my blood there was and she took me to an emergency doctors as it was sunday evening. He told me to ask my doctor for a colonoscopy and have bloods taken. I went to my doctors on the monday, he ordered my bloods but said i wasnt the type of patient that needed one! My bloods came back that i was aneamic (which i suffer with often).

I went back into hospital with terrible pain again in the night, i was kept in for 3/4 on nil by mouth, as i was told it could be gallstones or stomach ulcer. I was on antibiotics through vein and had regular oramorph (sorry for spelling), I had a scan and everything was fine and i was sent home crying in pain, yet again with no help or reason and just gave me pain killers. They didnt even check the second option of stomach ulcers.

I kind of lost all hope, i kept going to doctors and he would say the same thing. Ive had my bloods a few times and im aneamic alot, i have been low on folic and b12 and vitamin d aswell.

Eventually i was referred to a gastroenterologist. I saw him not last september the september before, he arranged a scan. I had the scan, again it was fine. I didnt see the specialist again until the next september (last year) and it was a different doc, he arranged for a colonoscopy. My colonoscopy was on the december after. They told me i had 2 large internal piles and they took 12 biopsies. I was booked to see my gastroenterologist on March. The day before my appointment they rung to cancel my appointment and i asked when id get another and she said, its like saying how longs a piece of string. So i kept ringing every few weeks, i kept getting told they would ger back to me. Eventually i phoned last month and the lady said, oh i can see you've phoned a few times, you should be booked in by now! And i got a letter for an appointment on 5th September, 2 years after my first apt and 5 years after  seeing the GP!

Im so tired and i feel helpless, like no one believes me and they wont help.

I just want to know if anyone has been through something like this, i want to know if i should be worried.

Other symptoms i have are insomnia, restless legs, ache and throbbing all over ( not all the time), vertigo, hot flushes, feeling of being weak all the time and tired, fast heart rate occasionally and find it hard to catch my breath,  migraines, acid reflux, severe depression and anxiety. I know some of these are not linked but i thought id disclose everything .

Please, any information or advice is very welcome and needed!

Thank you

  • Hi Linzi,

Welcome to the forum and I'm really sorry to hear about all the health issues that you've been dealing with over the past few years. It's understandable that you're feeling as you are.

I would hope that if anything serious had shown up on your colonoscopy that the hospital would have called you back long before now however that doesn't resolve the problems that you're living with.

You mention that your appointment is next week. Is your Mum or a friend/family member able to accompany you for support? Some people find it easier to write things down before attending an appointment. It can make it easier to discuss all the issues if you have them on a piece of paper in. As it's possible that you'll see a new Dr you could write down everything that's happened and take it with you. Write down how these symptoms are impacting on your daily life.

You also mention in your post Linzi that you struggle with anxiety and depression. It's possible that some of your symptoms may be connected to that so if you've not already chatted with your GP about these issues then make an appointment to do so. I'm sure that getting some help in those areas would also help to improve things for you.

I do hope that your appointment next week brings you some answers. If you feel you'd like to chat through any of your concerns with our team of nurses then give them a call on 0808 800 4040 (Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm).

    Best wishes,

  • I'm so sorry that you were going through all of this and I know it was a long time ago but did you ever find the cause of the problem x
