Uterine biopsy & polyps results

Hi

I’m new here and hoping to get some advice please?

I’m 55 and post menopausal but since early June I’ve had several bouts of bleeding and spotting.  After visiting my GP I was referred to the Gyne unit and on 24th July I had ultrasound scans and a hysteroscopy. They found 3 reasonably large polyps and said my wall was quite thick (18mm), they took a biopsy and said I’d get the results in the post. I was then referred for polyp removal under general anaesthetic.

On 2nd August I had the polyps removed and again I was told that they would be tested and I’d get the results in the post.

I now don’t seem to be able to think of anything other than the results!  I feel ridiculous worrying about it when there’s so many people on here that have had their diagnosis and are going through their treatments.

I just wondered how long is normal for the results to come through?  And is it always by letter?  I’m constantly preoccupied by this and the two friends I’ve confided in just say I’m worrying over nothing and won’t discuss it with me - I know they think they are helping but they don’t understand that I feel I need to talk about it!

Any advice will be so gratefully received!

  •  Hi, i can understand your worry, as for how long to get your results i cant say as i dont live in the uk, i live in NZ, but we are all women  no matter where we live. last year, i was diganosed with cervicl thickness that went from 4 to 14 in a short space of approx 3months,and a tumour on one of my overies.. I had a biopsy like you and had a full hysterectomy and my overies removed  every thing was sent away and all came back benign.i also was like you post menopasual, age 57. so try not to worry , dont look up doctor goggle as that always gives you the worst cases and dosnt ease your mind. it makes it worse and most polyps are benign and the thickness , can be a worry but, also it can be just a case of post menopasual, even though people and research can say the opposite.  Try to take your mind of it by keeping busy and tell your self you are fine.Easier said than done i know. I wish and hope your results will be all good. Stay positive. Always here to talk. Barb

  • I can see this was a while ago and I sincerely hope all was well.

I am four weeks tomorrow since my hysteroscopy and polyp removal and am wondering if anyone has any idea how much longer I might have to wait? My GP said it can take up to 8 weeks....is no news good news?

I am a 6 year breast cancer survivor and understand how waiting for results can get to you, but this seems a really long time.....
