Prostate cancer testing

Hi.

My dad is 65 years old and recently visited the doctor with bladder problems. She treated him for a UTI, however suggested revering him for prostate cancer tests had it been in the family history. Both his brother and uncle have recently been diagnosed.

At the initial GP appointment she took some blood. He’s been for a transrectal biopsy a couple of days ago and was told he then had to have a isotope bone scan several days later.

I am a WORRY WART and literally anything worry’s me for days so awaiting these results have been so stressful. After hours of googling and reasearch weighing up the likelihood of him being diagnosed etc. I happened to notice that isotope bone scans were generally only undertaken AFTER a diagnosis??

Is this protocol?

Or have the doctors found something and decided to send him for the scan to stage it?!

  • Hi kinderpop the order of tests vary greatly depending which has a free space first, i had my bone scan first, and please DON'T Google it'll make you worse than ever, remember even if your father has prostate cancer there's loads of options for treatment nowadays and they work wait till you get the results it could be CLEAR, best wishes...
