Dad with kidney cancer spread Brain

Hello, this is my first time on a forum.  My dad had his kidney removed a few months ago, and we were told that dad had low volume metastasis in his lungs.  Since then he has now been told that he has cancer in his adrenal gland and two tumours in his brain.  He has just finished a round of radiotherapy and is back on steroids because of swelling in the brain is seriously affecting his speech and memory.  I’m just unsure of everything at the moment.  My dad has recently moved in with me and my husband and son, but I don’t have any siblings to help and I’m feeling overwhelmed.  I’m really scared of what the next few months will be like for my dad.  Is anyone else in this position?  Thank you for reading this.

  • Hi Lizzie and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm really sorry about your dad's diagnosis. I can't begin to imagine how difficult this must be for you.

Many of our members have cared for loved ones with cancer at home, and those with cancer that has spread to the brain, so hopefully you'll get some support and advice from them soon.

If you'd like to talk things through with someone then you're more than welcome to give our cancer nurses a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. It may be worth getting in touch with Carers UK as well.

To begin with, just try to take things a day at a time and remember that we are here when you need us.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
